You will own your own vehicle and may well be employing staff for the first time.

Most drivers start with a van – either a 1-man (you alone) or 2-man (you plus one staff) service.
From there you can move to an owner driver truck if you want to expand.
If you already have experience in the industry you may want to start with a truck or a van, whatever suits you.
For someone new to the industry or the concept of the owner driver, it can appear a daunting change.
However, Smart Express will guide you through the process and help you to focus on the excitement and rewards of establishing your own business.

What licenses do I need?
A current and clean, unrestricted driver license relevant to your vehicle.
For those looking to purchase vehicles with a GVM of less than 6 tonnes, a Class 1 licence is required.
When the GVM is over 6 tonnes a Class 2 licence and a TSL licence are required
What type of vehicles are required to become an Owner Driver?
Smart Express uses Mercedes Sprinter moving and delivery vans. We use these vans as they are among the most economical and they’re big!

Smart Express requires the use of a new or modern fit-for-purpose vehicle, typically between 30m3 and 50m3.
