In February 2019, Smart Express reached a significant milestone with the acquisition of the long-established Taxi Trucks and Tiger Transport businesses, further strengthening its position as one of Auckland’s leading moving and delivery companies.
The acquisition included the ownership of the Taxi Trucks and Tiger Transport brands and associated business assets, including trademarks, business goodwill, customer databases, websites, domains, telephone numbers, operational systems, vehicles, and key staff. These acquisitions enabled Smart Express to preserve the heritage of two respected New Zealand transport brands while integrating their expertise into a larger, customer-focused organisation.
As part of the acquisition, Smart Express welcomed Tiger Transport owner David Baird, together with experienced team members Kyle, Sara, and Lorraine, along with a number of Tiger Transport’s professional drivers and moving crews.

Today, Smart Express is the proprietor and owner of the Taxi Trucks and Tiger Transport brands. While Smart Express operates as the primary trading business, the acquired brands remain valuable intellectual property assets within the Smart Express Group, preserving their long-standing reputation and recognition in the New Zealand market.
The acquisition also enhanced Smart Express’s expertise in residential moving, commercial relocations, office moves, same-day delivery, and specialised logistics, providing customers with greater capability, increased fleet capacity, and a broader range of services throughout Auckland, Hamilton, and Tauranga.
David Baird continues to contribute his extensive industry knowledge within a management role at Smart Express and remains actively involved with the team, helping maintain the high standards of service for which the business has long been recognised.
